Everyone in this category says they tested a dozen rowers. We haven’t tested any, and we say so. What we did instead: read every manufacturer’s published specification, computed the floor space each machine really needs, and worked out the five-year cost of every subscription attached to one. That method is published in full, so you can check it.
Why this site exists
A Concept2 RowErg costs $990 and nothing after that. A Hydrow Wave costs $1,995 and then $50 every month for as long as you want it to work as advertised.
Over five years that is $990 against $4,995 — a difference of $4,005, of which 60% of the Hydrow total is the membership rather than the machine.
We checked nine of the biggest publishers in this category. Not one of them publishes that arithmetic. They print a sticker price beside a machine that needs a subscription to function and call it a comparison.
